Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs)

At BHS, we don’t just sell equipment. We treat our customers like partners and design solutions tailored to maximize their profits.

Decades of experience building processing systems for various types of material streams have provided us with the expertise necessary to solve any challenge. From the first Single Stream recycling system in the U.S. to today’s largest and most complex sorting facilities, we set the standard in Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) technology. Durable, high performance equipment matched with our innovative, talented people mean we’re ready to work for you and your business today and into the future.

Single Stream

Keeping you ahead of the stream.
BHS developed the first single stream processing system in the U.S., and we’ve been setting the standard for performance and reliability ever since. When you demand the highest quality equipment optimized for your profitability, there is no equal.

Municipal Solid Waste (MSW)

We dig deeper into the waste stream.
It’s a new world for MSW where diversion targets continue to grow to unprecedented levels. BHS leads the way with the first recovery system in the industry to keep 70% of waste out of the landfill, capturing 90%-99% of high value commodities like PET plastics — on the first pass. With numbers like these, you are guaranteed to stay ahead of your competition.

Anaerobic Digestion

Adding up to zero.

The next logical step in waste recovery is harnessing these materials for their inherent energy value. Our patented sorting process can be customized to extract organics for anaerobic digestion. Subsidiary Zero Waste Energy (ZWE) uses its state-of-the-art SMARTFERM dry anaerobic digestion technology to transform organic waste into biogas and compost.

Construction and Demolition (C&D)

Automated sorting of a most challenging material.
Cutting through the massive, mixed clutter of Construction and Demolition (C& D) waste requires ingenuity that’s always mindful of the bottom line. Efficient recovery of these materials could mean the difference between red and black ink. Whether you’re looking for a simple manual sort line or highly automated sorting, BHS has a solution for you.

Compost and Organics

Maximizing value

Extracting value from the organics stream has been a core competency for BHS since our founding. Our in-line Tri-Disc screens have successfully refined wood products and green-waste for decades. As our customers dig deeper into the waste stream, we are leading the way with our screening, air separation, anaerobic digestion, and compost solutions.
